Teaming up with Turtle Hatchery on Marine Debris Collection Project

Report by Ranita Niky Putri, Senior Administration Staff, Administration Division

MOL Indonesia’s newly launched CSR initiative on marine debris collection held trial operations from April 28-30. The project collects debris from waters along Legian Beach and Tanjung Benoa Beach in Bali.

Plastic waste and seaweed account for most of the debris collected. We have teamed up with local waste management site, named Panca Lestari, to recycle the debris. Plastic waste will also be recycled into handicrafts. Meanwhile, the collected (fresh) seaweed waste was handed over to the turtle hatchery at Tanjung Benoa to provide additional food for the turtles.

This activity has been certified as a project marking the 50th anniversary of Japan-ASEAN friendship and cooperation.
